Overview
Climate change poses an existential threat to food security and agricultural livelihoods in Rwanda. NIRAM Ltd works with farmers, cooperatives, government agencies, and development partners to design and implement Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) programs that simultaneously improve productivity, enhance resilience, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The CSA Triple Win
Our CSA programs aim to achieve three interconnected goals: increasing agricultural productivity and incomes, adapting to climate change impacts, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions where possible — the "triple win" of climate-smart agriculture.
CSA Practices We Promote
- Improved seed varieties with drought and flood tolerance
- Conservation agriculture and minimum tillage
- Integrated soil fertility management
- Agroforestry and tree integration on farms
- Efficient irrigation and water harvesting
- Post-harvest loss reduction technologies
- Crop diversification and intercropping systems
Evidence & Learning
We conduct rigorous monitoring of CSA adoption rates, yield improvements, and income changes. Our data shows that farmers adopting CSA practices experience an average yield improvement of 30-45% and significant reductions in input costs through improved soil health.
Climate-smart agriculture is not just about surviving climate change — it's about building the resilient, productive farming systems that Rwanda needs to feed its growing population sustainably.
